Mars in Gemini Warmup Act for Uranus in Gemini
I'm sure that followers of my YouTube and other video platforms are tired of me harping about Mars in Gemini. However, Mars transited into Gemini in August of 2022 and the planet completes its stay in Gemini in March of 2023. And while people with outer planets in Mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) feel the brunt of this Mars transit, for the sake of this article I'm focusing on the Pluto and Uranus in Virgo group born roughly in the 1960s.
Please go to my YouTube channel Astrologer Patricia and my Vimeo channel The Lyra Star Messenger for more details about Mars in Gemini in relationship to the power of words and thoughts. I'll refrain from that topic in this article. But we had the opportunity for eight months (by the time Mars moves into Cancer) to clean up our thoughts and our word use so that we can create better lives for ourselves.
A Bit about Mars
Mars is a personal planet so it doesn't carry the weight of the trans-personal planets (Jupiter and Saturn) or the three outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto). The usual Mars transit is approximately two months in a single sign. When Mars is moving direct (every other year), the planet travels through six of the twelve Zodiac Signs. A Mars Return (when transiting Mars conjuncts Natal Mars in a chart), occurs every two years. However, every other year, Mars turns retrograde and that's what occurred when Mars transited into Gemini in August of 2022. Mars went retrograde in October and then went direct on January 12. Mars transits into Cancer on March 25.
We know Mars are the ruler of men, especially young men and boys as well as guns, cars, the police, soldiers, the military, fire, boldness, courage, new beginnings, knives, surgery, violence, aggression, and the pioneering spirit, just to name a few themes. While Mars transited in Gemini, Chiron transited in Mars' ruler, Aries. And we have seen more violence in regard to children.
For someone like myself who has an afflicted Mars in my Natal chart in the sign of Gemini, this Mars transit has left me exhausted and unable to move forward with writing projects, with the exception of short articles that I write for magazines and blog posts. But I was also born with Pluto and Uranus in Virgo, which I'll get into in a moment. I believe that the Mars in Gemini transit is hugely significant to a planetary shift that is occurring. And I believe that Mars in Gemini is empowering us, if we choose to accept the gifts offered with this transit.
A Bit about Gemini
While Mars is at home in Gemini (an Air Sign), Gemini's Natal Ruler is Mercury. Gemini is a flexible and adaptable sign. Virgo co-rules Mercury along with Gemini. Gemini plays the yang to Virgo's yin. Virgo is an Earth Sign but shares mutability with Gemini. Despite the shared rulership of Mercury, Virgo and Gemini people don't share much in common. I suppose they both have a tendency towards neurosis and could be fidget when it comes to food. Virgo is hyper critical and is known as a perfectionist sign. Gemini and Virgo both play a role with social media, high-tech, the functioning of the brain, and the media. Gemini is more the writer and Virgo is the editor (I'm generalizing).
Despite their similarities, Virgo and Gemini form a square on the Zodiac Wheel. And this square causes inner tension in the form of analysis paralysis (the reason why I'm not able to move forward with my memoir). Both signs pay ample attention to details and can get lost in the details, especially Virgo. Gemini is two-sided and seems to argue with itself. The shadow of Gemini is to speak out from both sides of the mouth. I'm reminded of a gingerbread man stuffed toy I had as a child. The yellow side of the gingerbread man had a smile and the pink side had a frown. This toy reminds me of Gemini.
There's also a line from the movie French Kiss when Meg Ryan's character, Kate, says, “Happy: smile. Sad: frown. Use the corresponding face for the corresponding emotion.”
Putting the Pieces Together
So, why was Mars in Gemini for eight months? I believe that planetary transits are timed correctly. We might even call it divine timing or the signature of the stars of fate. However, we're not victims of this fate and we actually do have a choice of how to respond. With Mars in Gemini we can either stay within our habitual way of thinking and talking without giving any attention to the power of words. This brings us the same results of getting the situations and things we don't want.
Or we could pay close attention to the ways our words and thoughts shape our reality and the the reality of the collective. Even though Mars is a personal planet and not as big of a game-changer as the outer planets which stay in a sign for at least seven years (Uranus) or over twenty years (Pluto), Mars brings us the planetary shift on a personal level because it is a personal planet that focuses on our mundane lives. We realize that the mundane is as important as our spiritual quests. And in fact, if we don't have our mundane ducks in a row, we're not going to get far on the spiritual quest either other than walk around spaced out and unable to take care of our basic needs.
So, then, how does this transit affect people who were born with Pluto and Uranus in Virgo? The 1960s, similar to the 1980s and 1990s, were decades with transits in Mutable Signs. And Mutable Signs usher in time of change and hopefully, flow. We currently have one outer planet (of the three) in a Mutable Sign, and that's Neptune transiting in its own sign, Pisces. But in 2026, Uranus which has been transiting in the Fixed Sign, Taurus, will move into Gemini. That suggests, that Mars is warming up the crowd, much like an opening act does at a rock music concert, for the bigger event, Uranus in Gemini.
(Incidentally, Neptune transits into the Cardinal Sign, Aries in 2025).
Uranus and Gemini both rule the neurological system which includes the brain. And I'm thinking the more we work on mindfulness during the Mars in Gemini transit, the better off we'll be mentally when Uranus transits into Gemini three years from now. Pluto will be in the Fixed Air Sign, Aquarius, which also rules the brain and neurological system and will trine Uranus in Gemini. This doesn't just suggest using the power of words to manifest new realities, but it suggests breakthroughs in neurological science such as healing brain and neurological diseases.
But we're not there yet. We're still working through the Mars in Gemini transit, which is harder for some generations than it is for others. If you were born with Pluto and Uranus in Virgo, you'll experience the Uranus-Uranus square between 2026 and 2033, but Uranus dips into Gemini from July 7 until November 6 in 2025. And this will show up as inner tension or inner turmoil. Since Gemini is a dualistic sign, we argue with ourselves mentally. We question our motives and intentions or we push ourselves too hard towards perfectionism. We might beat ourselves up and cause nervous exhaustion for ourselves.
There is the potential for mental and nervous breakdowns or burnout if we aren't careful. This is why practicing mindfulness now (while Mars is warming up the way for Uranus to enter Gemini). This is also a good time for everyone, but especially Virgos, to learn about the red flags around gaslighting and narcissism so that they don't become victims of those games. This is also an excellent time to take better care of the physical vessel (our bodies) in which we serve the world.
Face it, we're all in our late fifties and early sixties now. Dare I say it, but the Pluto in Virgo Generation is approaching senior citizenship. But fortunately, there are many anti-aging practices and products available to us because similar to the Boomers before us, we won't age without a fight. But the Uranus in Gemini transit will be brutal on the neurological system so use this time to make changes to your lifestyle so that you have more peace around you. Cultivate peace. Cultivate relaxation for yourself and others. It's not too late to study yoga or meditation or Tai Chi. It's not too late to change your diet (Virgo and Pluto). And it's not too late to find some enjoyment of life outside of serving others. Have you ever heard of self-care?
Self-Care for Pluto in Virgo People
If you think self-care doesn't matter, then look at the destruction Mars in Gemini has left in its wake for Virgo in Uranus and Pluto generation members. And self-care for us is setting boundaries. Remember that "no" is a complete sentence and deserves no explanation or excuse. If something doesn't feel right or if it feels draining, slam on the brakes.
Most Pluto and Uranus in Virgo people have been serving someone else if not the entire planet, in one way or another, for their entire lives. They feel that if they aren't fixing other people's problems or societal problems, then the world will deconstruct. These folks carry a heavier burden than other Pluto Generations. Not only that, the Pluto and Uranus in Virgo folks had their Neptune in Scorpio which only leads to the scathing criticism of the world at-large. They are on a daily quest for hidden motives in just about everything. They're often spot-on and find the motives.
So, here comes Uranus in Gemini (with Mars warming up the act) to bring out liberation and even revolutions for the Pluto/Uranus in Virgo folks. But the inner tension will lead us to feel shame and guilt as well as resentment to all those people who drained us. We will be like the character in the movie, Schindler's List who thought he could have done much more. There's always more to do and more to get done for the Pluto and Uranus in Virgo people. But take a deep breath because Uranus is letting us off the hook from the obligations that drained us (taking care of elderly parents, having adult children staying at home...).
While few people would call the Uranus in Virgo people kindhearted, they don't see that this group equates duty and service with kindness. Yes, they can become critical, cynical, jaded, and even mean at times, but that's because they have been drained of their lifeblood taking care of the needs of others. When we nitpick, it's because we want others to improve themselves. This isn't because we don't love them but because we feel they will be more empowered if they try harder or get their lives together. The irony is that if we don't practice self-care our own lives will be in shambles. Uranus, after all, is the grand wrecking ball that brings tower moments.
Final Words
This is all I'm going to say on this topic for today because my fingers are sore from typing. But I look forward to this liberation from obsession and obsessive duty/service to others. I know I've had enough of carrying the weight of the world on my back. I know the pain it causes to my spine.
