Mars in Aries (Youthquake, Brain Research, and New Beginnings)

June 27 to January 7, 2021

Like it or not, Mars transits into Aries on June 27 and remains in Aries until January of 2021. Mars will be in its own sign and also the sign where the asteroid Chiron is currently residing. While eclipses won't be stirring up Mars in Aries, Mars will go to head with Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto.

We could even return to some of the themes that came up when Uranus transited in Aries from 2010 through 2018.

As a Cancer Sun person with a Capricorn Ascendant, I'm not looking forward to this Mars transit. And as I write this post, Mars is in soothing Pisces which bodes well with me. I suppose it is only fair for Aries-dominant people since the North Node was in Cancer for a year and a half which must have felt like smothering mothers to Aries who want to strike out in the world and put their swords to the test. And to be honest, we all have 12 Zodiac Signs in us even if we have no planets in all 12 signs. Since we only have 10 planets that would be impossible anyway.

However, the Aries theatrical revue plays out in the house in your Natal Chart where you have Aries on the cusps (the ram horns symbol, not be confused with Taurus' bull horns). Some people will have Mars bisect two houses depending on what degree Aries is on the cusps of a house. In that case, you'll have the Aries theatrics playing out in two natal chart houses and carrying the themes of those houses. But wait, Aries retrogrades from September 9 until November 13. If you have any planets in Aries between 15 and 28 degrees of a Cardinal Sign, then you will see themes or in the worst case, drama play out 2 to 3 times.

Mars transits into Aries on June 27 (a sextile to Saturn in Aquarius on June 28)
Mars retrogrades on September 9 at 28 degrees Aries
Mars goes Direct on November 13 at 15 degrees

(See a planetary guide or ephemeris for degrees on any given day but generally when Mars is moving forward or backward it transits 2 degrees a day. The exception is when Mars is stationary).

Since Jupiter and Pluto are transiting in Capricorn, another Cardinal sign expect some conflicts during those squares. Saturn returns to Capricorn on July 1 and remains in that sign until December 17 and that also provides opportunities for Mars to square Saturn. But most important is the conjunction between Mars and Chiron exact on July 14 and 15 at 9 degrees Aries. At that time, Chiron will have just gone retrograde. This has us returning to childhood wounds. People born with Chiron in Aries around 9 degrees are experiencing a powerful Chiron Return fueled by Mars, the ruler of Aries. Now, some astrologers are going to predict wars and revolutions or at least protests and riots, especially when Mars first goes into Aries and forms a sextile with Saturn in Aquarius, the sign of the revolutionary. But personally, I don't feel that will be the case, at least not on a global scale. However, what we will see are powerful youth movements also known as youthquakes, and these movements intensify when Mars goes retrograde this fall. Part of that is because when Saturn is in Capricorn the focus is on elders at the expense of youth (at least seen from their eyes).

*I wrote this post before the protests erupted around the world regarding police brutality. Since those protests and marches have already begun they will continue in one form or another for the next 6 months. But it will expand to include rights for other groups and even animals. Children's rights will be higher on the list.

Also, Saturn moves out of Aquarius back into Capricorn on July 1. That alone will calm down the street protests. But then Saturn transits back into Aquarius in December.

I believe that the world's youth have shown an extraordinary level of patience and maturity in lockdown situations. Schools were closed but the children learned on-line which they are more suited for anyway. And they seemed flexible too around high school graduation with drive-by ceremonies and on-line commencement speeches for the class of 2020 (what a strange year to graduate). But the youth acted responsibly and maturely while Saturn was in Capricorn. When Saturn moves into Aquarius for the next 2.5 years, the youth will most likely be stirred up with grassroots projects, organizations, the coals of revolutionary thinking.

We will explore how the lockdown and the pandemic shaped the brains of our youth. Will they suffer from PTSD from the past several months or will they have been safer staying home than attending schools with bullies and possible gun violence? Mars and Aries also rule guns, aggression, and violence along with the brain and face. Perhaps, because of the pandemic, youth were spared death by gun violence. I would like to see the study of heavy metals on the brain and mental health and the removal of chemtrails from our skies after the experts prove that heavy metals can cause brain health problems that lead to violence. Now, that would be a real breakthrough.

Since the North Node is now in Gemini we are gathering information and about the mental process since Gemini rules the mind and mindfulness as well as, overactive minds have also known as the monkey mind. Meditation and yoga for youth play roles here too. More and more young people suffer from anxiety and depression so anything to quiet the mind would bring immense healing for our youth. Gemini also rules the lungs and we have ventured into themes about breathing and breath. As I mentioned in some of my videos this past year, air quality will be extremely important when the North Node is in Gemini.

But what I would like to see are younger (the 30s) world leaders. I would like to see all of us moving from fear to courage in the coming months. We have grappled with fear for too long and lack the confidence to face our collective fears. Perhaps, we can become more like the younger people and stand up for ourselves. And speaking of standing up, expect to see the momentum for the Sunrise Movement (youth to curb climate change) build and intensify. We'll also be hearing more from Greta Thunberg and others like her. Climate Change should not be tossed on the backburner because the world is undergoing a pandemic. As Jane Goodall said in an interview I watched on YouTube, the virus won't last that long but not addressing Climate Change will have devastating results.

Finally, I want to highlight some intense days for Mars in Aries transit.

Mars squares Jupiter on August 5 and 6

Mars squares Saturn the last week of August

Mars goes retrograde at 28 degrees Aries on September 9

(It is still within orb in a square with Saturn)

Mars in a square with Saturn September 28 - 30
Saturn goes direct on September 29

Mars squares Jupiter most of September and is exact from the 18 - 20

People most affected by Mars in Aries are the Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) because these signs experience conjunctions, squares, and oppositions with Mars. The other Air (Gemini and Aquarius) and the other Fire Signs (Leo, and Sagittarius) experience a boost of energy and mental stamina from Mars transit in Aries. The Water Signs (Scorpio and Pisces) and Earth Signs (Taurus and Virgo) experience the tension in the world stirred up by Mars but are not directly impacted. Then again, I'm only talking Sun Signs here. Look where you have your Moon, Rising Sign, and Natal Mars for best results.

On the plus side, Mars gets us all moving with exercise or some way of increasing stamina and vitality in our physical bodies. Mars in Aries boosts our confidence and helps us to face our fears. It is an excellent time for motivational and health coaches as well as, athletic coaches. On the downside, Mars in Aries is warlike and could stir up thoughtless revolutions that are impulsive and volatile. The world needs courage and bravery and not more violence and aggression. Let's remember those words this summer and into the winter of 2021.
