Five Important Transits for 2023

There are actually more than five important transits for 2023. And in fact, 2023, in many ways, is more exciting than 2022 as far as transits go. Three of the five outer planets change signs. The North Node transits into Aries (not really a big deal but), and a personal planet transits for several months in the sign of Leo. While another person planet finally moves into Cancer (after spending eight months in Gemini).

It's unusual for personal planets to remain in a single sign from six to eight months and when personal planets (Mars and Venus) stay in a single sign for several months, they cause us to focus on the energies and themes of that sign. It's not accident. When outer planets transit into new signs that feels like a hiccup or a large ship slowing down to turn in a new direction.

The best way to navigate the waves of energy in 2023, is to take life in the slow lane. Instead of reacting to events, respond. Take one day at a time. Don't plan too far into the future (because the future is ever shifting and changing). If you don't enjoy riding larger waves, then take time out, but don't hibernate for too long or you'll miss out on golden opportunities.

It's like that song, The Gambler by Kenny Rogers. (This song popped into my head as I'm writing).

"You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run."

The Big Five Transits for 2023

Before I get started, let's look at the month of January where three retrograde planets go direct. Mars, which began a transit in Gemini on August 21 finally goes direct at 8 degrees Gemini on January 12th. Mercury goes direct in Capricorn on January 19 and Uranus who went retrograde on August 25 at 18 degrees Taurus, goes direct on January 22, fittingly around the time of the Aquarius New Moon (Uranus' ruling sign).

However, even though Mars will be ending an eight month transit in Gemini on March 25, this year's focus is no another personal planet, Venus. March proves to be an exciting month since Pluto transits into Aquarius (temporarily) and Saturn transits into Pisces (for the duration of a Saturn transit).

1. Saturn in Pisces

Saturn appeared comfortable in the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius even if this meant that authoritative figures were too heavy-handed with the everyday person or the masses. When Saturn was in Capricorn people thought they had no option but to obey the law of the land, but when Saturn moved into Aquarius and squared off with Uranus in Taurus, we saw people revolt across the planet.

But we also saw the rise of mental illness and drug addictions (mainly because of Neptune's long transit in Pisces) but also because Saturn was focusing on the mind/brain which led to mental breakdowns for some folks. Gas lighting was a word on many people's lips as was censorship. Authoritative figures armed with technological giants (Aquarius) told us what to think and even where to place our focus.

So, what's next with Saturn moving into Pisces on March 7? (Seven is a Neptune-Pisces number and March 7 is in Pisces Season).

Saturn's classical rulers are Capricorn and Aquarius which are two different energies. Saturn represents authority, father figures, boundaries, structures, the structure of the human body, finances, and even the patriarchal era. Pisces dissolves boundaries, swims in its own direction (obeying no one's rules), dreams, uses his imagination and represents spirituality (not religion).

The lower octaves of Pisces includes prisons, hospitals, chemicals, vapor, smoke, fog, air pollution, water pollution, the fishing industry, destruction of the oceans, drug and alcohol addiction, mental illness (as in delusional and paranoid) and it rules co-dependency. The higher octave of Pisces represents the movie industry, the music industry (when used for healing purposes), music therapy, dance, dance therapy, photography, compassion, forgiveness, yoga, meditation, transcendental spiritual practices.

So, how will Saturn in Pisces play out for the next 2.5 years? And what happened last time Saturn was in Pisces? Will fundamentalist religions shame and bully people who practice alternative spirituality? Will old structures dissolve? Will we create our own realities? Will movies be used as propaganda or for healthy entertainment? Will more people with addictions get help or will they transition into spirit in larger numbers than in previous years (Pisces can represent the end of life).

I believe that Saturn in Pisces assist us in our departure from the Pisces Age. And the final push into the Aquarius Age is when Neptune leaves Pisces and transits into Aries in 2025, the same year Saturn transits into Aries, which represents new beginnings. This is why Saturn moving into Pisces is a big deal in 2023.

2. Pluto Dipping into Aquarius (March 23 until June 11)

Not only is Pluto debuting in a new Zodiac Sign in 2023, but Jupiter who transits from Aries into Taurus will square Pluto from May 17 until June 11 when Pluto transits back into Capricorn. With Jupiter and Pluto squaring off at 0 degrees this marks new beginnings. These two planets drill down on zero degrees, and Pluto remains at 0 degrees during it's entire transit in Aquarius. Well, 0 degrees Aquarius also reminds us that we are at the beginning of the Aquarius Age which will last at least 2,500 years!

We might complain about the chaos and confusion in the world but let's remember that it's not every generation of humans that lives through a changing of the ages. The last time humanity went through one of these changes was when Jesus walked the Earth. So, it's been a long while. And as we are shifting from one age to another, we are also delving more deeply into Galactic energy. The Sun grows more intense with solar winds, the poles are shifting, and have you noticed that there are numerous realities playing out at one time? And we thought the ending of the Mayan Calendar was a big deal. Hello!

So while Jupiter transiting into Taurus isn't a big deal even if he's shy of a twelve year transit around the Zodiac Wheel from the last time he was in Taurus, Pluto dipping into Aquarius is a huge deal and we must pay attention. Not only that, Pluto will transit back to 27 degrees Capricorn which is the Pluto Return for the US. This will conclude at the end of 2023 and I think we'll notice monumental changes to the US. Pluto is the planet of death, rebirth, and transformation. Since I'm currently in the US State where the nation was born, Pennsylvania (US birth place is Philadelphia PA), I wonder what role I'm asked to play during 2023.

3. Mars Leaves Gemini Finally (Thank you, Mars)

I realize that as an astrologer I haven't paid enough attention to the personal planets with the exception of eclipses. I have focused on the big five outer planets because they bring massive change and stay in signs longer than the personal planets who usually rip through a sign.

However, Mars, which is famously known as the ruler of men and boys stayed in a masculine sign, Gemini for eight months. As mentioned earlier, Mars moves into Cancer on March 25. The reasons for its long stay in Gemini astrologically was because of a retrograde. However, the significance of Mars staying in the sign of language, learning, and communication is because we need to clean up communication. We need to pay attention to the power of words and stop using words violently or aggressively.

Stop with the negative affirmations

Gemini is an Air Sign that I associate with the wind too and look at the number of cyclones and hurricanes during recent months. This Mars transit prepares us for an astrological event of 2026 when Uranus will transit into Gemini. I warn everyone to use their minds wisely now. Become mindful. Meditate and direct your imagination into a constructive and creative direction. Give up bad habits such as recreational drugs and if you suffer from mental illness, get help from a  licensed professional who isn't also suffering from mental illness. Stop gossiping, complaining, and ranting unless you want all those words to come back and slap you in the face (Aries/Mars rules the face).

Mars in Gemini could have also ruled brain surgery and brain science. But it can also ignite violence caused by young men (with guns) suffering from mental illness. And it rules discovering lies and corruption on social media platforms as well as, gas lighting by the mainstream media and alternative news. We don't know who to believe any longer, kind of like scenes from the movie Charade starring Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (go watch the movie).

Finally, Mars in Gemini gave us the motivation to hire a coach or to learn coaching. It gave us motivation to write books, give speeches, and create our own media platform. But some people grew tired of the chatty atmosphere, the bullying, shaming, and divisiveness caused by this transit and they left social media platforms in favor of a meditation practice. Good for them.

4. Venus in Leo (Battle of Beauty Queens)

While we will give a sigh of relief when Mars finally returns to its normal transit, Venus rears her head in 2023 when she heads into the Fire Sign Leo. This transit begins on June 6 and ends on October 10 (a total of 5 grueling months). The theme that comes to my mind is the battle of beauty queens. But not just beauty queens, super models, actresses, and all the other women who hog the spotlight in 2023.

Both Venus and Leo have a shallow side and when we combine the two, expect superficiality, gossip, competition, and betrayal. This won't happen with every woman but it will occur with women who spend their days watching beauty videos and globing onto women celebrities (especially divas, actresses, and models).

The advertisers and fashion industries will make use of this transit too by focusing on the perfectionism of the youthful woman. That's right. If you're a menopausal woman, you'll be cast aside by advertisers and ignored by the superficial types. The camera eye will focus on the unobtainable image of the perfect woman who will be airbrushed and sculpted and then forced to wear body slimmers to fit into serpentine type dresses. Okay, so that's the ugly side of Venus in Leo. And most of us don't look good in a cat woman costume.

For the more awakened folks, Venus in Leo is about valuing the heart. It's about giving from the heart and mentoring younger women. It's about more women becoming motivational coaches and actresses donating time and money to charities. It's about goddess worship and Gaia consciousness. And it's about cleaning up the diet, especially after Venus transits into Virgo in October. And it's about investing in gold because Venus is what we value and can rule the financial markets and Leo rules gold. There will also be a focus on preventing heart attacks and strokes in women. And it's about Leo Sandra Bullock adopting another dog that no one else wants.

Venus in Leo also rules women empowerment if we don't take the media bait and side against other women. Women need to end the divide and conquer game started by the patriarchs who destroyed matriarchal cultures and pitted women against each other as in with harems and concubines. And can we please end the dichotomy of the virgin versus the whore? Thank you.

5. Jupiter in Taurus-Pluto in Aquarius Square

I know I mentioned this square earlier under Pluto's transit. However, this square is different than the Saturn-Uranus Square that happened in 2021 and 2022. While Saturn constricts, Jupiter expands. While Saturn is seen as a party pooper, Jupiter promotes optimism, freedom, and world travel. Jupiter represents Galactic travel and anything that is far away or foreign.

So, what happens when Jupiter transits into Taurus (a Fixed Sign that would rather stay at home than travel in a rocket ship to another galaxy) and then squares off with Pluto in Aquarius? Will the currencies change as some experts have predicted? Will we suddenly go all digital? Will entrepreneurs (Aquarius) fall under more scrutiny and lose public trust (even more)? Will Jeff Bezos travel into space again (and hopefully stay there this time)?

Jupiter is a gambler with big ideas that often fail. Pluto, on the other hand, is secretive and cautious as well as underhanded. This could represent a war of religions or rifts in organized religion such as what happened during the Renaissance when the protestants emerged and challenged the Roman Catholic Church. This could also represent religious fanatics starting cults that lead people to sip juice tainted with cyanide. It does suggest depravity or the uncovering of cults that misuse and abuse sex and shamanic plants.

Whatever transpires or is uncovered at this time will be short lived because this transit lasts from May 17 to June 11 when Pluto returns to Capricorn and Jupiter moves on. This could also spark revolutions and sound off the cries of freedom for the oppressed. It could usher in a time of labor movements, strikes, and mass exodus from various industries as people decide to start their own businesses. The US will definitely feel the effects of this transit since Pluto returns to 27 degrees Capricorn later in the 2023.

If humanity decides to awaken we can avoid the darker predictions. Personally, I would like to see Galactic beings arriving to teach humanity and take us to the next level of our evolution. I would like to witness humanity learning how to use their junk DNA and expanding their minds. And I would like to see new forms of spirituality replace traditional religions that enslaved women for centuries.

What do you think?

Okay, so those are five major transits for 2023. I infused humor into the mix so we can enter the upcoming year on a lighter note. I like the lyrics, "Don't Worry, be happy," by Bobby McFerrin. Don't worry because 2024 will get here much sooner than you think and you'll be reflecting on the powerful transits of 2023 and saying, "Wow, that unknown and underpaid astrologer was right."
