Astrology--Why the Heck it Works

Taking Astrology Beyond Weekly Horoscopes...

I have a confession to make. Even though I am a professional astrologer, I still question how astrology works. Is it just magical thinking, I often ask, or is there something to it? Yes, I've heard other astrologers add elements of science and psychology to astrology. And I even read a book on forecasting weather with astrology. But it wasn't until a deep meditation that I experienced this morning where I finally grasped the gorgeous truth of astrology and why it actually works.

Every morning I wake up with a question that I pose to my spirit guides (a collection of masters and archangels of light). This morning, I asked how can planets transiting through a constellation shape human lives and global events? The response was something I had heard before and even grasped the meaning which is, "As above; so below."

First of all, the astrological transits affect our ethereal/esoteric/astral bodies. And we do know from the New Thought movement and energy medicine that illness begins on the level of spirit before it manifests in the physical or mental bodies. When the planets move through the Zodiac constellations they work upon our mind-bodies also through symbolism, archetypes, and through time, astrologers associated constellations with particular planets that correspond with body parts and energies we can interpret through human language. So, that planetary energy moves from our astral bodies into our physical bodies unless we clear the energy.

So, as the Sun transits through the Aquarius constellation the energies in that constellation and its symbolism affect us on both an esoteric and a subconscious level. This is why becoming more mindful of astrological symbolism and planetary energies help us to prevent illness or diseases associated with the Zodiac Sign and its corresponding planet. This isn't to say that we avoid illness by doing this although it certainly helps. There is also karma and our soul blueprints to explore in regard to illness and disease. Astrology is only one piece of the pie.

Now, we know that there aren't actual astrology charts written in the sky at the time of our birth. The charts astrologers read whether on paper or on a computer screen are a two-dimensional representation of a multidimensional event (the time of our birth). It's what we can easily interpret in the same way that a road map looks nothing like the three-dimensional landscape where the map leads us into.

I've experienced the energies of each of the planets through meditation and through trance work. So, when I look at a chart, I experience sensations in my physical and emotional bodies when I explore transits and aspects, not to mention, the signs the planets land. I also see glimpses of movies playing out (not movies we would watch in a movie theater but mind-movies). When I practice astrology, I use both sides of my brain as I do when I write novels or short fiction. The parallels between writing fiction and reading a chart amaze me for what I'm looking at in both cases is a soul blueprint and the interpretation of it.

Every being or becoming experiences sacred geometry, the music of the spheres, and the energies of our galaxy when the planets transit into a constellation or travel within those constellations, especially, when those planets create patterns in the sky even if we cannot see the invisible lines drawn between them. It reminds me of the connect the dots books I had as a child. It's basically like a master mathematician in the sky creating the destiny of Earth, of the collective, and of individuals. But this is not to say we don't have the freedom of choice. We choose whether we respond or react to events and situations. We either choose to learn and grow or shrink our consciousness.

Remember that saying that if someone gives you lemons make lemon aide? And some astrologers tell us that we chose our soul blueprints prior to birthing onto this planet. So, then, that tells me we have personal power and responsibility in the co-creation process. I have seen clients with Grand Fixed Squares in their charts which for me is the most challenging Natal configuration and energy. And those clients either choose to stay stuck in rigid thinking or they pull on other energies in their chart that unlock that Grand Square. I have also experienced numerous clients with yods in their charts, sometimes multiple yods and I've taught them to navigate through the frustration of continuous yield signs they have experienced (talk about feeling stuck). And I've worked with clients with easy and flowing Natal Charts who don't feel any motivation due to the lack of stressful aspects in their Natal charts.

I'm wondering if we will explore astrology further and dive more deeply into it during the Aquarius Age because astrology is ruled by Aquarius. Will we explore the connection between the constellations and fixed stars and our neurological system? Will we discover planets in other galaxies and learn astrology from star beings or have we already done that? One of the messages I received in my meditation this morning was that astrology was originally taught to us by star beings.

Given the most popular use of astrology (making predictions on personal or mundane topics), I believe we are missing the point of the sacred geometry and science of astrology. I gazed at the Metatron Cube the other day and it reminded me of an astrology chart. While I have not brought it up with clients, each chart contains sacred geometry in it. Check out the Mystical Rectangles, the Golden Triangles, the Grand Crosses, etc...Astrologers work with geometry on a daily basis without giving it any thought. I never even took geometry when I was in high school or college. I barely passed basic algebra. This wasn't because I was stupid. It was due to the way math was taught separately from metaphysics and the arts.

In India and Arab countries, math was taught through musical rhythm and woven in with science. During the renaissance, the Europeans borrowed science and math from the Arabs who were advanced in those areas. In India, ancient musical practices were based on mathematical beats and also microtones. In fact, many ancient cultures that practiced astrology also were versed in science, music, and religions (though the religions differed by regions).

When I researched the healing power of music, I attended Indian music recitals where I learned about beat-cycles. Indian music, most likely connected to Vedic Astrology, also has melodies that reflected on particular seasons and times of the day. Now, I'm not familiar with Vedic Astrology because I'm trained in Western Astrology. I wasn't raised in India or as an Indian so Western Astrology is the language for me to interpret the planets and stars.

What I know and this is Universal, no matter which astrology practice, we are all in the act of becoming our soul blueprints in a language familiar to us. Astrology works when it is practiced by an expert. It takes years of working with clients, reading tomes, attending lectures, and deeper meditation to become an expert in astrology and much more to become a master. Some of us were also astrologers in previous lifetimes and that certainly provides a shortcut and a passion for the planetary language.

Since the Earth and the sky are connected it is a mistake to only focus on the planets around the Earth. I combine Gaia and the natural world with my astrological practice. But isn't it funny how we find the shape of a star in the core of an apple? And have you noticed that sacred geometry shows up in everything above and under the Sun? I haven't even explored the significance of the colors of each of the planets or their particular energies in this article. If we bring in Earth magical practices of the pagans we see associations between the planets and gemstones, plants, and essential oils, not to mention, healing herbs. In that regard, anyone involved with anything new age is directly or indirectly practicing astrology, even if the focus is only on the Sun, Moon, and the personal planets. (All Earth beings are made from stardust and share a commonality with minerals and stones that originated with stars).

I could easily delve deeper into this topic regarding the wisdom of astrology. Many people never practice astrology simply because they can't get their heads around the symbolism and the connection to our astral bodies. Many people don't even know we have astral bodies because their focus never strays from the mind-body experience or I could call it the ego-body experience. But now that we're in the Aquarius Age, that could all change in the blink of an eye or the twinkling of a star gazing at us from the night sky.

Sign up for a personal reading if you would like to explore your personal astrology further. I take clients Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Inquire first, we'll schedule a time, then pay prior to the session.
