Summer Solstice 2019--The True Meaning of the Divine Feminine

A Call to Earth Stewards

I usually write about the solstices and equinoxes but the upcoming Summer Solstice in the north and Winter Solstice in the south connects deeply with Gaia. It's asking us to nurture ourselves while also acting as Earth stewards.

Every time I say those word, Earth stewards, I remember my sister's graduation from Evergreen State College in Washington State. The guest speaker Leonard Peltier (through a surrogate speaker) emphasized that the graduating class needed to steward the Earth. In the event that you don't know who Leonard Peltier is, I send you to this Wikipedia article. When his words were delivered through the speaker a sudden wind rushed by toppling chairs and blowing across the outdoor stage. The wind and the words captured my attention. I have not forgotten and this happened during the 1990s.

The Summer Solstice for 2019 connects us more deeply to Gaia and humanity by asking the question, what's your ambition worth? Is it worth the earth's destruction? Is it worth the extinction of other creatures? Does it resemble a trophy hunt in which a giraffe loses her life? Does is resemble overfishing the ocean and creating plastic islands in the middle of the ocean? Does it resemble mining the mountains for precious gems? Does it resemble deforestation? Does it resemble big agriculture poisoning the soil, water, and air? Will we place high-tech ahead of Mother Nature? These are the questions that weigh heavily on our minds in June.

So, what's going on? What's the urgency? And why am I taking this Friday morning to deliver the astrological message to you? My response is that the planets are always speaking to us through their alignments with other planets and with the Earth. As above is also below. The signatures of the planets affect us greatly mainly through their guidance. But it's so much more than that which is why I have dedicated part of my life to practicing astrology.

However, I also fall into the seductive trap of spending too much time on metaphysics (or in my mind) and not enough time with other people or creatures. Balance is a theme for all of us as we usher in a time of diminishing light. The Solstice represents the pinnacle of light, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. In other words, I do this work for the benefit of humanity but if I ignore the people closest to me, it's too high a price to pay. If I ignore the natural environment by not standing up for it, I also pay a high price, not worth paying.

First, let's look at the Mutable T-Cross with Venus at 15 degrees Gemini, Neptune at 18 degrees Pisces, and Jupiter at 18 Sagittarius (also giving us an exact square with Neptune and Jupiter). Well, what's that about? In a YouTube video by Amanda Ellis on the energies for June, she mentioned the rush to the top of the mountain summit and the price people pay for that climb. And mountain climbing falls under the gaze of adventurous Sagittarius and social climbing Capricorn.

This reminds me of the gold rush during the late 1800s which tore men away from the hearth and home to become wealthy through mining gold in California and later the Yukon and Alaska. This gold fever or as Amanda put it in her analogy, "Summit Fever," has ruled humankind for centuries. The Jupiter-Sagittarius energy caused humans to expand their boundaries by invading other lands, killing other people (animals and plants) in the name of profit. We have seen this in modern times in the guise of software and high-tech companies. We have seen this destroy the lives of millions of people in the realm of real estate and development. (People who buy and flip homes in communities with a shortage of rental homes piss me off).

The Summer Solstice contains that Mutable T-Cross with Jupiter in it as well as, Neptune--the dreamer who doesn't see past trances or illusions. But Jupiter in Sagittarius also appears in a yod with an Aquarius Moon and the North Node in Cancer. While I don't normally include a yod with a node an as a point, this time I'm making an exception. The North Node in Cancer is also in conjunction with Mercury and Mars in Cancer. It is wide conjunction until you see the opposition between that trilogy with the South Node, Pluto, and Saturn in Capricorn. Cancer rules the hearth/home and Capricorn represents industry and ambition. The yod asks us to stand back, pause, and reflect on where we've been and where we're heading.

All these aspects in the chart ask us what we're willing to sacrifice. On one hand, we don't wish to sacrifice our dreams for another person's needs. But on the other hand, we also don't want to stomp on other people's needs as we climb our way to the top. It's a delicate balance. And part of the reason we want to keep on moving forward without looking back involves that square between the Cancer Sun and Chiron in Aries. Anytime Chiron is in a stressful aspect with the Sun our core identity is at stake as is our core wounds. In the past, we glossed over these wounds and worked like the devil (Saturn) to get ahead thinking once I get to the top all my problems will be solved.

Except that many divorces happened in families with workaholic spouses and parents. Other addictions occur with these aspects as well such as shopping, drug, and alcohol abuse, not to mention domestic violence in some cases. Many times narcissism forms the root of the trauma because the narcissist is too focused on outer appearances and how other people see him. So, dealing with the core wounds must occur now or karma rears its head. We won't slip through this passage unscathed if we choose not to balance karmic debt just like financial debt snags people now. Not healing the wounds is not an option.

But all is not lost, if we do the healing work instead of just focusing on the mundane work, the Sun in flowing aspect with Uranus and Vesta in Taurus reminds us of the blessing we receive when we serve others. Mars/Mercury/North Node is also in flowing aspect with Neptune as is Pluto, Saturn, and the South Node reminding us to dream the bigger vision for Gaia and humanity. If we can't do that, the square between Venus and Neptune reminds of the price we pay for seeing the Earth as a shopping mall instead of as a living breathing being.

I've given you a lot to think about in June. I'll also be posting the article for the Sagittarius Full Moon shortly (which actually occurs before the Summer Solstice).
