2020--The Year That Transformed the World

As we have reached the last quarter of 2020, I'm revisiting the Saturn-Pluto conjunction that occurred at 22 degrees Capricorn on January 12, two days after the Lunar Eclipse at 20 degrees on the Cancer-Capricorn axis. In 2020, 22 degrees of any Cardinal Sign has played a significant role as you will see from this article. I like to think of 2020 as the year that shifted our consciousness and shaped new realities, even against our will.

I will be pulling up several charts of what I think were the biggest players in 2020 which are Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, and Mars. I'm not even going to talk about the six eclipses, the change of signs for the North Node, or Uranus in Taurus even if those transits are also shaping our new reality. Although I will say that Neptune has played a major role with government leaders gas lighting and spreading misinformation about an infectious disease that mainly kills elders (all those planets in Capricorn). Please note that the last pandemic, the Spanish Flu of 1918-20 (100 years ago) mostly killed young adults.

We know that both Saturn and Capricorn rule elders. And Saturn was in Capricorn for most of 2020, even if it dipped into Aquarius (when younger people stunned us when they died from the virus), where it will head back into in December. Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 and that year Jupiter was also in Capricorn helping to crush the economy and cause some folks to experience homelessness for the first time in their lives. It reminded us of the Great Depression which took place in the 1930s when Pluto was in the polar opposite sign for Capricorn which is Cancer. And again, in 2020, with Jupiter conjunct Pluto and exact three times, we experienced economic troubles reflecting back to the Great Depression of the 1930s. People weren't feeling so lucky with Jupiter in Capricorn.

Then at the end of June, Mars transited into Aries and around that time riots and peaceful protests hit the streets around the the world fighting for racial justice. And this happened over the backdrop of a deadly pandemic even in cities such as Seattle where the virus peaked. And later, we would see these protests return as even more police officers (ruler Mars/Aries) perpetuate more violence towards black Americans--all this televised and not enough to protect vulnerable minorities. People around the world watched in horror.

The three main themes on most people's minds were the collapse of the economy, racial justice, and the pandemic as well as, the presidential race in the US. Neptune in Pisces and Pluto in Capricorn which have been in a sextile for 2020 also brought up delusional thinking people have about the US President who suffers from malignant narcissism and dangerous behaviors that led to the deaths of over 200,000 and counting Americans. Let's also not forget the Impeachment trial which ended up with crooked US Senators telling and believing lies thus voting against the removal of an unqualified world leader.

Will those Republican Senators reap their rewards this November on election day? I'm thinking the answer is yes and that karma will be served to them. Saturn in Capricorn is the god of karma and Pluto in Capricorn takes no prisoners.

Americans and the entire world will recall that January 2020 was the month (and into the first week of February) that President Donald Trump's unlawful dealings were being examined in front of the US Congress who voted to impeach the president. However, we also know that the Republicans (except for one) voted as a majority to not convict Trump of any wrong-doings. Don't worry this will come back to haunt those senators who decided not to uphold the law. Wait until November.

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction at 22 degrees Capricorn is karmic and not only that, that cluster of planets in Capricorn act as the focalizer in this chart set for January 12, 2020. Saturn might delay karmic justice but when Saturn and Pluto join with Jupiter (which they did for most of the year), justice would eventually be served. Remember that Jupiter represents the law and higher minds. Jupiter also reflects on how this country appears on the world stage because the world is watching. (It would also be interesting to return to the late 1980s when Saturn was in Capricorn).

As this major conjunction took place between Saturn and Pluto, the US is quickly approaching it's Pluto Return which commences in 2022 and ends in January of 2024. That alone brings up the shadows and plummets people into the Dark Night of the Soul. But there's even more. Look at the planets in Capricorn on January 12 which include Jupiter, the Sun, Ceres, Saturn, Pluto, and Mercury. Mercury deals with short-distance communication and local communities whereas, Jupiter deals with the world and long-distance as in overseas travel. Meanwhile, these planets aligned with Neptune in Pisces which rules epidemics not to mention delusions and deception.

I know that most people think of a sextile as a flowing transit. But flowing can also mean that if the planets in the sextile are ill placed or have heavy hitters such as Uranus, Mars, Pluto, or Saturn, then what flows is from the belly of the underworld. And isn't that we have witnessed? Who are these frightening characters that have showed up in American politics and the pandemic too? And then there was confusion about the virus that launched the pandemic. Who has it? What will cure it? When will the vaccine come out to save humanity? These were the questions on peoples' minds. And then many of us felt as if the governments and business gas lit us in regard to the virus and with politics as well as, race relations.

Jupiter formed three exact conjunctions with Pluto during 2020 including April 4, June 29, and the most significant on November 12 when both Jupiter and Pluto are moving forward and at that critical 22 degrees Capricorn. November 4 hasn't arrived yet at the time of this article and will happen after the big election in the US. Even though the three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions all have stories to tell and lessons to reveal, for the sake of brevity I'm only including the final pass of Jupiter and Pluto because by that point, we hope any lessons have been learned.

In this chart, we have the interlocking of a Golden Triangle and a Cardinal T-Cross. Let's take a close look at the players in each configuration. The T-Cross includes Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn with Jupiter and Pluto in an exact conjunction squaring off with the Moon and Venus in Libra (women and justice, as well as, the vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris) and Mars in Aries (political bullies and aggression, even riots). But the Golden Triangle which also includes the planets in Capricorn, Neptune in Pisces and the Sun in Scorpio have a harmonizing effect. Incidentally, that Scorpio Sun favors Joe Biden running against Donald Trump for US President. I also feel like women voters will rock the vote on November 3 (which Mercury goes direct in Libra).

But what does this mean for the pandemic? And how will these transits bring racial equality in the US? The Moon and Venus in Libra represent peace and justice brought through diplomacy. But Mars in Aries is in for the fight and wants nothing to do with justice. And the planets in Capricorn represent authority and the world stage with Jupiter in the mix. The world is watching indeed. The Sun in Scorpio in flowing aspect to Neptune in Pisces uncovers secrets regarding the pandemic or perhaps, a cure. Saturn in its last degrees of its own sign faces the challenge of bringing stability and getting us on solid grounding. It all depends on the outcome of the US election at least for this country.

I'm not a mundane or world event astrologer but I have a good feeling about the outcome of both the pandemic and the upcoming US election. I feel that enough people have suffered and the biggest hurdle we face is an election occurring by mail during Mercury's retrograde through Scorpio and Libra. It's entirely possible that ballots will get lost and many will turn up months later to be counted. Mars is also slowing down during that time getting ready to move direct and eventually complete its journey in Aries in January 2021. However, perhaps, the Mars retrograde and the Sun in Scorpio prevent the misplacing of voting ballots. But voters better take responsibility and make sure their votes are arriving in the right place at the right time and in the right way. Don't leave anything up to fate.

Mars challenges Pluto with exact squares twice in 2020. Due to brevity we will only interpret the second square which takes place on October 9 at 22 degrees (the critical degree for a Cardinal Sign in 2020).

The main configurations in this chart are a Grand Water Trine, a Cardinal T-Cross, a Golden Triangle and a Kite. This chart reminds me of Joni Mitchell's song "Both Sides Now" because it reveals the crumbling of the old order and the emerging of a new one but in the midst of a Dark Night of the Soul. And we've seen chaos playing out with deception, gas lighting, outright lies, injustice, and a pandemic continue to ravage lives along with an economic collapse.

But we've also witnessed the emergence of new communities, of people expressing kindness to the Earth, to animals, and to other humans. We still express compassion when others suffer. And many of us have remained steady on our spiritual paths despite the tumultuous energy hitting us on all sides. It's as if we are walking through a hurricane or watching the Earth swallow some of us.

Mars squaring Pluto speaks more about inner tension than it does outward events. But we all know that where we place our thoughts (worries, fears, and anger) manifests in the outer world. Mars squaring off with Pluto does erupt in violence but it also gives us courage to speak our truth and to pioneer new ways of living on the planet. New inventions can come from this aspect just as riots and police violence can. This chart speaks of growing up or maturing. We need maturity and responsibility along with integrity to muster through these times.

We also need clear thinking and to refer to true experts instead of anyone who has created a blog or a YouTube channel (which includes me). Let's not confuse opinions or beliefs with facts. Let's seek clarity despite the deception cast from Neptune in Pisces. It's not the time to indulge in alcohol and recreational drugs but it's time to do our research on the virus as well as, the political and economic climates. Put on your thinking caps with the Libra Sun in flowing aspect to the North Node in Gemini and in December two major players moving into Aquarius--Saturn and Jupiter.

Based on everything we have explored here this is what I forecast for the next six months. Biden-Harris win the presidential election. Women vote in larger numbers than in previous decades. Many black Americans rise up to leadership positions and bring racial justice but this is a slow process. The pandemic ends when the countries have strong and mature leadership. After an economic downturn or the crumbling of the old economy, we enter a period which we call a second renaissance. With Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius we will see the rise of entrepreneurs worldwide and new inventions that transform our lives.
